Graffiti & Tagging....

The ONE Thing WE can CONTROL is removing the graffiti/tagging. The moment you see it, if you report it using the free resources (listed below), it is removed within 24 hours. (Typically, if it's reported by 10am, it's removed the same day.)

Graffiti/Tagging equates to CRIME.

There have been arrests made regarding the tagging of the buildings and/or walls along the freeways. Stakeholders in the Harbor Gateway area are watching during the overnight hours and reporting these folks.

TO REPORT GRAFFITI:

Every morning, I start the day by driving each street and submitting reports on graffiti. Because of the constant reporting involving the same addresses, resources are automatically deployed to those locations daily.

The more eyes on our streets the better.

SQRD LAB located at 12820 S Figueroa St in Harbor Gateway/Los Angeles was one of our first businesses that placed a mural on their building. Over time, the location began to experience tagging. Sadly, the mural was destroyed.

However, hope was not lost nor did the business give up. Meet Sam Welty, a mural artist on a mission. I had the honor of meeting Sam while he was transforming this building. His vision of art can change the world has brought a new perspective to our community. Visitors from throughout the City of Los Angeles are driving to this location to simply take photos and enjoy the work. He is not connected to the motion picture or movie studio. I asked him to return back to our area and see what we can do together to change our unknown community into an art filled corridor. Perhaps working with these taggers to provide them some training and help them to transform our neighborhoods into something very special.

Please visit www.samwelty.com and him follow @sweltyart on Instagram.

Thank you to SQRD LAB for allowing this mural to take place. We will do everything we can to ensure it remains untouched. We brought KCAL9 to the location. We plan to do to more lifestyle segments to showcase how very special Harbor Gateway & the Unincorporated areas are transforming themselves by working together.

Now back to reality, WE are working hard to identify and prevent the tagging. Working together with our residential neighbors, every law enforcement agency, the Railroad, Edison, LADWP, Caltrans and City of Gardena, we may be able to prevent them from further harming our communities. Businesses I understand the fear of getting involved but without your involvement, these folks will simply continue to multiply. It is our time to take back our corridors and transform them.
