Businesses please listen up or rather read up, if you are not a member or financially supporting the Chamber of Commerce, I am under no obligation to help you. This week, I was reminded by a business owner who believed verbal support was sufficient.
Unfortunately, most banks do not accept verbal support as payment.
Six years ago, I began working on the Figueroa corridor. The area was lined with 284 RV's, sidewalks were impassable and things were a mess. With the help of Councilman Buscaino and his staff, we were able to remove the RV's and make Figueroa Street clean & safe again. At one point to make the new parking restrictions work, I used my small salary to cover parking at a local church so that employees had a safe place to park. I have always believed in the ability to improve the quality of life in the business corridor and the residential neighborhoods.
Now we find ourselves in a very frustrating situation, burglaries & break-ins are happening on a nightly basis and reporting is not happening. If we are not reporting the issues, they simply do not exist and we are giving the thieves a "green light" to continue to destroy our business community.
Last night, I was included in an overnight survellance operation with LAPD in the Harbor Gateway. Arrests were made and officers were shown a majority of the "hotspots" or hiding areas that go unreported. Working on our streets, organizing community lead clean ups and creating partnerships have given me the ability to clearly identify the problematic locations.
I am confident in the work that is being done on the streets every day.
As a courtesy, I am listing several other Chamber of Commerce that service the area. It would behoove businesses or building owners to get involved and become a member.
My focus at the Harbor Gateway Chamber of Commerce will continue to be clean, safe streets. Addressing homelessness & crime will continue to be my top priority throughout the community of Harbor Gateway, Unincorporated LA County areas of Rancho Dominguez, Rosewood, West Rancho Dominguez & East Gardena and City of Gardena.
More updates to follow soon.
