Are Things Improving In Our Neighborhoods?

My answer is YES.

Last August, Pathway Home addressed some of the issues revolving around the RV's & assisted in housing those individuals along several specific areas.

Those locations being:

  • Spring & Lennon (West Rancho Dominguez)

  • Main Street between Compton Blvd & Rosecrans (West Rancho Dominguez)

  • Compton Blvd between Figueroa & Broadway

To my knowledge, only 1 person exited the housing program. Those that have remained in contact with me have transitioned to permanent supportive housing. Many have jobs for the first time in years.

Additional areas were subsequently cleaned up in October, November & February 2024. Those locations were:

  • 157th Street between Figueroa & San Pedro (East Gardena)

  • San Pedro between Redondo Beach Blvd & Avalon (East Gardena)

  • Avalon between Rosecrans & Alondra (Rosewood)

  • Main Street between Alondra & Compton Blvd (East Gardena)

  • Broadway between Alondra & Redondo Beach Blvd (East Gardena)

  • 135th between Figueroa & Broadway (Rosewood)

  • 130th between Broadway & Main (Rosewood)

  • Spring Street between El Segundo & 130th (Rosewood)

  • Maple Ave and Compton Blvd (West Rancho Dominguez)

  • New Century Drive & 157th (East Gardena)

As of this writing, those areas are clean. There are no RV's. There are no homeless living in horrific conditions.

Are we out of the woods yet? NO

Redondo Beach Blvd, Compton Blvd, Athens Way and parts of Broadway corridor still have plenty of work ahead. The majority of Rancho Dominguez remains untouched with the exception of the few clean ups the Chamber of Commerce organized.

Some good news...

  • In 2023, the Unincorporated LA County areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez, & Rosewood experienced 179 RV fires.

  • In 2024, these same areas experienced 1 RV fire.

  • In 2023, the Unincorporated LA County areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez & Rosewood had 541 RV's.

  • In 2024, these same areas have 200 (as of today)

  • Rancho Dominguez currently has 200 RV's. There has only been 1 reported RV fire which was during the winter months.

What I am focusing on now?

I am at the point where there simply are not enough businesses supporting the Chamber of Commerce. Yet, the majority expect one person to solve all their issues impacting their quality of life and safety. In the past, the Chamber of Commerce organized Clean Ups and cleaned up in front of non-supporting members. Clean Ups organized by the Chamber of Commerce will only focus on paid members. The work is dangerous and a health hazard. If you are not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, now is the time to join.

For the month of August, I focused on Athens Way & 129th Street. This area seems to be connected to a majority of the crime impacting all the businesses. Nearly every business has had their copper backflow systems & copper plumping stolen. The majority of businesses do not have cameras which has made it difficult to find these individuals responsible for the theft. Many of the businesses haven't reported the theft of their systems due to the complexity of trying to report. There seems to be a "What's the point" in reporting when nothing gets done. If it is NOT reported, it simply did not happen.

Every Report Matters.

Every Report Matters.

For members of the Chamber, I am happy to help with reporting. You have access to me everyday. I am only a phone call, text or email away. Once the incident happens, and time passes it makes finding these individuals harder.

For September, I am uncertain of the planned RV removals scheduled for this month. At this point, I have organized homeless outreach on Monday's & Wednesday's in the East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez, Rosewood & Harbor Gateway areas.

Tuesday's & Thursday's I will be working throughout the Rancho Dominguez area.

Every morning, I drive the streets submitting reports on graffiti, illegal dumping, stolen vehicles and any "hot" spots in need of immediate attention.

I encourage everyone to take a drive to those cleaned up locations to remind yourselves we are making progress.
